Teeth whitening – how to make it last

When we start to become middle aged, many of us tend to look back on our childhood; remembering the time when we could drink large amounts of cola and eat lots and lots of sweets without having to worry about the consequences of their actions (as another set of teeth would come). Of course in those days there was nothing like tooth paint or having the teeth whitened. Suddenly, people seem to realise that their teeth have changed an awful lot and no longer look the gleaming colour that they used to illuminate. It is shocking how few people take proper care of their teeth, considering it is one of the things that us as humans only have one chance of keeping. Hence, we are incredibly lucky that we have the ability to whiten the teeth today; it is something that definitely should not be taken for granted. Hence before making a choice on the type of treatment, one should look at how they can improve their oral hygiene to make the treatment last.

One should realise that it is not brushing the teeth, but taking part in many activities that leads to the teeth changing quality. This involves the things that are done very often (like smoking cigarettes and drinking tea or coffee). One does not have to stop completely, but if one can manage to reduce the amount that they participate in the activity then the teeth might improve.

Once evaluating this, then one can realise what type of teeth whitening treatment would be suitable for them. If the problem only extends to a few teeth or there is a slight discolouring, then one would benefit greatly from using a home teeth whitening kit as they are relatively expensive but still get the job done well. Typically, one should consult with a cosmetic dentist if the problem extends further.
