Adding Color to a Stale Kitchen

When it is time to replace the tile in the kitchen wouldn’t it be great to take that opportunity to add some flavor to that room in the house? The kitchen is a place that has a specific function and typically when we decorate that room it is based around that function. Things must be easy to clean and located in convenient locations for daily use. Everything is arranged based on efficiency. But there is a way that we can take this otherwise stale room and add some life to it with some creative tile work.

A typical kitchen has light toned floor tiles such as white or off-white. One way to brighten up the room is with some darker toned floor tile. On tile that works great for flooring is ceramic tile. This type of tile is durable and easy to clean; making it ideal for heavy traffic areas like the kitchen.

You can purchase ceramic tiles that have patterns on them or if you are feeling inspired you can purchase different colored tiles and create your own pattern. With this type of creative designing you can take 3 or 4 different colors that match the décor of the rest of your home and lay them in alternating patterns.

This creative remodeling of the kitchen doesn’t end with the floors. There are the countertops and a tile backsplash that can be put in. Using the same ideas with the floor tile about the color or patterns you can decorate the counters and backsplash with the same design or color scheme. You want to keep the colors that are used with the counters and backsplash similar to what you used for the floor design so that the kitchen still retains its unity.

The next time the kitchen tile needs to be replaced instead of just putting in boring old white try to find a color or design that you like that can add life to that functionally dry room.
