Fathers Custody Rights are Expensive to Enforce
Fathers have traditionally had a harder time getting their custody rights enforced. Typically, the reason for this is because mothers have been the ones to get custody. If a child’s mother decides that she doesn’t particularly like the visitation schedule that was setup by the court, in order for a fathers custody rights to be recognized, he would have to take the mother before a judge to get something done. This can get extremely expensive quickly when you factor in an attorney, evaluations, and court costs.
There are some things you can do as a father whether it’s to get the rights you have enforced, or figure out how to get full custody of your child.
For starters, you need to keep track of everything that happens. Write down the time that you do get to spend with your children, but just as importantly, mark down the time that you are denied visits by the mother. You also want to keep track of any abnormalities that you happen to witness when you are picking up or dropping off the kids. Things like drug or alcohol use, ever-changing personal relationships by the other parent, and anything else that you think might be beneficial.
Keeping track of this stuff will serve you two purposes:
1. You won’t remember everything that happens. This log will serve as a reminder for when you need to write an affidavit, speak to attorneys, and go to court.
2. It will serve to help the other parent make themselves look bad. They will have a much harder time denying that any of these things happened if you have the date and time marked down with the event.
If you take these few steps into account, you will find that it will lower the expense of enforcing your custody rights. Simply because you will be more prepared than the average person. This will leave your attorney with much less work to do, which will mean savings for you.
