Mr. Jones’ Crockpot Recipes
Even though you are not always inside your neighbor’s house, have you often wondered how she does it? Why is that even though she has the same number or more kids than you, works a full-time job, and is no wealthier than you (apparently), her house always seems to look so much better than yours? And why is that you always look and feel tired out at the end of the day, yet when you see her out on her veranda or emptying her mailbox, she always looks so well put together?
Obviously, every single household and situation has its own individual circumstances and dynamics, but if you were to be a fly on Mrs. Jones’ wall, you may find that she actually manages to achieve so much by doing just a few small, simple things that make her life much easier. Here are some of Mrs. J’s tactics, which might help you:
- Even though it is expensive, Mrs. Jones has a weekly cleaner. Having a cleaner is not a sign of failure. It simply means that you have prioritized your needs. You may be more productive spending quality time with your children rather than getting home, throwing off your coat and washing the floor and then being too tired to have a straightforward conversation with anyone. The money you may save by not getting help may end up going on doctor’s bills or counseling to deal with stress.
- Keep things simple. Why not invest in a microwave or a crock pot? Both of these will help you cook simple, easy meals that involve very little fuss. And don’t think that your kids will lose out health-wise. Many crock pot recipes, such as vegetable soups and meat stews, are extremely wholesome and filling – and needless to say, absolutely delicious. You don’t have to be a gourmet cook every night. A well-cooked tasty dinner is usually enough.
- Learn to manage your time. Practical time management is one of the most essential parts of running a household efficiently. If you need to, assign specific times and dates to certain tasks, such as when to clean out the fridge and wash the windows, while other tasks should become “must-dos” that have be completed before you go to bed for the night. These include washing the dishes, wiping counters, and sweeping floors. You will soon find that your house will become much more tidy when these things become a general, constant routine.
- Perhaps the most important thing of all is a positive attitude. Maybe Mrs. Jones always looks so good because she is a genuinely happy person who is positive about her responsibilities and does not expect too much from herself. The moral here is to know your limitations. All of us can obviously improve and strive to be better, but don’t be too hard on yourself if you are not yet perfect. Look at your specific situation – how many children you have, how many hours you work, and your own state of health. For example, if you are eight months’ pregnant, don’t expect to have the same energy levels that you had before you conceived. Just be realistic, positive about yourself, and relax …
