Swing Coats Pros and Cons
The swing coat has been around since the late 1940s, and despite every change and adaptation it has went through, it ceases to leave the limelight of fashion today. Unfortunately, as everybody knows, every clothes ensemble fits everyone in a different way, so knowing the type of outerwear you want is imperative for a cute outfit.
Swing Coats that Swing
Some women may argue that swing coats are the most versatile of coats. They might have something, there, and it would be because of the unique style. It is also how it got its name. The swing coat fits a lot of women’s different shapes and sizes because of how free the midriff area is — it swings freely from the midriff down. Some say it gives it a cape-like shape. This is a good thing because it draws people’s eyes away from the chest. It makes the chest area appear smaller, possibly making for a very nice and balanced physique. Because of how the coat is intentionally over-sized, a small framed woman could appear without shape. She should consider size very carefully when purchasing one. The best results come from pairing it with a good pair of fitted pants or a fitted skirt; it gives a nice slimming appearance. Is that bad?
Cool or Warm?
The swing coat not only complements many girls’ figures, it even makes a good autumn or spring jacket. Made of a light fabric, it will make you look good more often than it will keep you warm. That’s right — do not include this in the list of wants for best warm winter coats. If that is what you looking for, I suggest trying on a few red or black pea coats or maybe a vintage tweed jacket. Swing coats are not good in really cold weather, but that may be their only downside depending on how you look at it.
Good or Bad?
As you know, the late 1940s was when the swing coat was conceived. Funny enough, that was their main purpose back then — to be used as maternity clothing. Because of the looseness in the lower half of the coat, the original swing coats allowed women to hide their baby bumps and feel sexy like they should. While they were wildly popular by mothers-to-be, they were and still are just as popular with women who are not expecting. Classic versions of the swing coat went all the way down to the knee, while newer versions stop at the hip. Celebs like Miley Cyrus, Mila Kunis, and Nicole Richie have all been seen sporting their own swing jackets. Some of them are even the original knee length, and some are leopard print.
Nice weather coats like swing coats are made to be worn in Spring and Autumn. They provide women with an excellent foundation for a nice figure. Women with small frames should not let the jacket eat them up. All of you must watch those tacky colors! It will then be the perfect addition to that new Spring outfit.
