Natural Born Weed Killer for Lawns
The problem with weed killer for lawns is that the chemicals used are hard to read, hard to pronounce, and hard to figure out how in the world mix and use. Of course, the best method is to just yank the Playstation III out of your kid’s hand, give him a bucket and a spade, and kick him outside. Round-up may be the best brand, and it’s certainly one of the most popular. It’s non-selective, though, which means that if you’re not careful, it will kill grass, as well as crabgrass. Groundclear is another such brand. If you want something that is selective, there’s a brand called, Weed Out. It works on lawns, or driveways, and although it won’t kill the grass, it only works on certain kinds of weeds. Another selective alternative is a brand called, Weed Free Zone, but it works best in cold climate.
However, as Joni Mitchell sang, Hey, farmer, farmer, put away that DDT, now… Most people just don’t want to use chemicals, period, and with good reason. Even though most chemical weed killers are considered safe, nobody wants to take those assurances when it comes to their pets, or children.
So, organic it is, and don’t think the market doesn’t have a slew of organic, chemical free weed killing products available. But, if you’re going to kill weeds without chemicals, why pay for something that you probably already have on hand.
Go rummage around in your kitchen for some salt and white vinegar, mixed together, are a natural, nonselective weed killer. It will kill your weeds probably as well as the chemical brands, or the natural brands. It’s biodegradable, as well. Come to think of it, teenagers are pretty nonselective weed killers, too.
