How using your initiative to get smarter and more knowledgeable can improve your life

The first step in moving forward in the work and business world is to get more information and to get smarter. That’s where advanced training can come in. Most of us are a casual, take-it-easy mellow mass of insufficient knowledge about the things we want to know about.

Why?

Because we get busy doing important things, and also, yes, once in a while we might be a wee bit lazy.

Most Americans read less than one book a year. That’s horrible.

Most Americans never set foot into the public library regularly. That is embarrassing.

How else are you going to get information and opinion about topics if you do not explore the world about you?

Here are some ways to get information. It isn’t painful. It rarely costs tons of money. It is easy to do. You just simply have to do it.

- If you want a new and better job, look into getting more schooling.

- If you want financial advice for your business, search for the most current information online.

- If you want information about raising babies, because you have never done it before, ask your mom, aunties, grandma, or other elders. They have done it already.

- If you want info about insurance coverage, look online first and gain overview information. Then make a list of what companies you want to contact.

- If you want to get a small business loan, contact the Small Business Administration. If you don not know how to do that, get in tough with the local small business development center at the university or the Chamber of Commerce.

- If you have no idea how to run the business you have just purchased, contact the Service Corps or Retired Executives (SCORE).

- If you want to bake a cake, duh, look at the box that the cake mix came in. The instructions are there, including variant recipes, and what you need to do for baking at a high altitude.

- If you want a job, look in the classified ads. Study Craigslist a couple of times a day for employment ads. Tell everybody you know that you are looking for a job.

- If you want to enter a new career field, find out what degree that requires and go for it.

- If you want to meet a girl, don’t hang out at home all the time. Try to develop interests besides video games and looking at funny pictures online.

- If you want to read, get a library card. It’s free, unless you are stupid enough to lose it, in which case you may have to pay for a replacement library card.

- If you want to create a book collection, try looking at Better World Books online. The sale of the books benefits charity and the books are dirt cheap for the most part.

Don’t be a couch potato. Don’t be a slug. Use your brain or lose it to the mindless drivel of television and media hype. Be bold. Go forth and learn. Ambitious learners are the backbone of America. Get good info and grow your career and your life.
