Don’t Forget The Travel Insurance!
If you are planning on traveling away from your home for an extended period of time, it is important that you have some type of travel insurance that will protect you. Domestic travel insurance is one of the best ways to stay covered in case you need emergency health care and trip cancellation. If you are abroad and you need a sudden medical procedure (not covered by your primary insurance policy!) or if you get sick and have to come home from your trip having this insurance policy will protect you and your wallet.
Often times it is more common to have a medical emergency while away from home than while you are at home. Though anything can happen in the course of day to day life it is much easier for something to go wrong while you are traveling because you are in unfamiliar surroundings and often times in riskier situations. For example if you travel to Mexico you are probably at a higher risk for getting some sort of bug or illness from drinking water or eating food that is unfamiliar to your body’s system and therefore it is much more likely that you will be visiting the hospital for some medications to settle your food poisoning issue. If you are away in the Caribbean there is a higher chance for you to suffer from sun poisoning or to have an accident while scuba diving or stepping on some sort of sharp or poisonous sea creature.
Being protected while you are away is important because if you have insurance at home but not in other countries you will have to pay out of pocket for your medical emergencies. Because you are out of your home country it is also easier for doctors and hospitals to take advantage of you and charge anything they want. With insurance you stay well protected.
